This is the real generator, running in your browser. None of it is a screenshot.

The boring part

Checking gutter widths and page counts by hand, for every trim size, eats the afternoon you wanted for your next book.

You already know the KDP rules. The problem is doing it by hand on book after book. You only find the one you got wrong after the proof shows up.

From blank page to finished PDF

How a puzzle book gets built

Step 1

Pick a trim size, add your sections

Pick from the 7 KDP interior trim sizes. Then stack sections in whatever order you want: 60 Sudoku, then 30 themed word searches, then a run of mazes.

New book
Trim size6 × 9 in ▾
1Sudoku, Balanced60 puzzles
2Word search, Gardens30 puzzles
3Maze, Medium20 puzzles
+ Add section
Step 2

Difficulty is about technique, not clue count

Difficulty isn’t just taking out more clues. Gentle can be solved with naked singles. Fiendish needs X-Wing and colouring. These two grids come from the same finished puzzle.

Gentle41 givens, naked singles
5858823414714686975469593
Fiendish25 givens, X-Wing and colouring

Gentle hands you 16 more digits to start from.

Step 3

The preview is the real page, and it keeps up as you build

Add a section, move one, or cut one, and the running headers, puzzle numbers, and answer-key page numbers all renumber themselves.

Running header shows the section name and volume

Puzzle numbers run straight through, section after section

The answer-key page number updates when the page count moves

Step 4

Export checks the file first, and fixes what it can

Every export gets checked against KDP’s current interior spec. If the page count comes out odd, Puzzlil adds the blank page for you, and it says so.

When you publish more than one

Doing this by hand is fine for one book. It stops being fine at ten.

The old way
With Puzzlil
Difficulty
You pull clues out until it feels hard, then hope all 60 puzzles came out about the same.
Three tiers, set by the technique it takes to solve. Gentle needs naked singles, Fiendish needs X-Wing and colouring, and the whole section stays consistent.
House style
You redo the fonts, margins, and header rules from scratch on every new book.
One .style preset holds your type scale, margins, headers, and answer-key layout. Every new book opens with it already on.
Covers
You pay for a separate cover tool, then work out the spine width by hand.
The cover designer comes with it. Front, spine, and back, with the spine width set from your final page count and paper stock.
Generation
Your books sit in a render queue on someone else’s server. It slows down as your list grows, and each export costs a fee.
Everything renders on your own computer. A 200-page book takes a few seconds, even in batches, and nothing costs extra per book.

Questions we actually get

Does this meet Amazon KDP’s current formatting requirements?
Yes. Puzzlil builds to KDP’s published interior spec: all 7 paperback trim sizes, an inside (gutter) margin that grows with page count (0.375″ up to 150 pages, 0.5″ from page 151), a 0.25″ minimum on the outer, top, and bottom edges, no bleed on interior art, and an even final page count. Preflight re-checks all of it against the current spec on every export.
Can I reuse my settings across multiple books?
Yes, that’s what house style presets are for. Save your type scale, margins, header rules, and answer-key layout as one .style file, then apply it to every new title. The whole series matches without you setting it up again.
What happens to my books if I cancel?
Every PDF you have already exported stays yours to keep and sell. Cancelling doesn’t touch files that are already on your computer, and your project files stay on your device too. You lose the editor and new exports until you resubscribe, and when you do, your projects are right where you left them.
Do you store my puzzle content, or does it stay on my device?
It stays on your device. Puzzle generation and your project files run in your browser. Your puzzle content and layouts are never uploaded. The only things on our servers are your account and billing details.
Can I design a cover, or just the interior?
Both. The cover designer does front, spine, and back as one wraparound, and it sizes the spine from your final page count and paper stock. You export the interior and the cover as separate print-ready files, which is what KDP asks for.
How does the free trial work?
You get 14 days of full access, no credit card. Cancel before day 14 and you’re never charged. After that it’s $19 a month, billed monthly, and you can stop whenever.
